Hats & Glasses

So....after crocheting several scarves now in 'straight lines', I thought I might attempt a little crocheting in 'round lines'. A colleague at work jokingly said about crocheting her a beanie, so I had a go....and here is the result....not 1, but 2 hats...! She was rather chuffed.
I've also just completed this rather pretty 'glasses case'. The pattern uses a much finer hook than I've been using so far and some simple alternative ways of working stitches (between stitches of the previous row and on top of rows) along with frequent colour changes to create the intricate looking effect.

I have also lined this with some spotty blue fabric, otherwise I thought the glasses might catch & snag on the inside, a bit fiddley but worth it.

Back at Work & Another Scarf...!

Well, being back at work has somewhat slowed my crocheting a little. However, another scarf has popped out from the hook..!
...a lacey pattern this time, but very easy. Hoping the colour might go with my new coat.
I have also found the bag pattern I've been searching for. Now I need to decide on colours.

..in the mean time, here's a little sneak preview to my next project in the making..! Can you guess what it might be..?

Another Scarf

Larger hook - check
Wool - check
Pattern - check ('One-Skein Scarf' designed by Denise Cozzitorto from Patons)

Completed scarf - check, here it is...
I made a few slight changes, ensured the foundation chain row was within a middle row as opposed to on the edge so that the shells didn't pull big loops, also made it a little shorter than the pattern, and used x6 double trebles in the end shells because x5 trebles pulled a bit tight across the width. I also used a larger hook & tried to keep the tension loose for a softer feel.
Very pleased with the result...xx

I am now looking for a bag pattern as a bit more of a 'longer term' project, will search Ravelry..!
A colleague at work would like a 'phone cosy' so might whip one up this weekend, but now I'm back at work after the summer break will have to find time to get to a wool shop..!

Scarf & Wrist Warmers

The scarf I started is now finished along with a pair of wrist Warmers to match.

I had to make a few alterations, the tension around the wrist cuff was too tight to get the glove on my hand even after several attempts at restarting, so in the end I have left a little opening & added a loop and button (I think my hands are rather wide across the knuckles). I have also added the same picot edging from the wrist warmer pattern to the ends of the scarf, just to finish it off.

...and of course as soon as I finish one project I'm onto the next...so here's the phone cosy I made yesterday....

..and I just need to get a larger size hook to start my next scarf with some lovely wool I've been given.

Just a few more flowers...

Being an avid camper with a husband who enjoys/follows motorbiking.....I spent the bank holiday weekend camping at Cadwell park for the BSB.
Even though I am new to crochet I could not resist in taking a little wool and a crochet hook, and whipped up a few more flowers.

First Project Complete

Here it is, my first crochet project completed. A crochet hook case...!

Worked mainly in double crochet, so good practice. I think my tension got better as it progressed, still need to think about ends of rows (some are a little wobbly..!).
I forgot to sew the button on before dividing the bottom into pockets, which would have been easier.
I added the leaf & flower, to practice other stitches, from Sally Harding's book 'Crochet Step by Step' (pub. Dorling Kindersley).

The book, by the way, is what started this all off. There it was in a pile at work from 'The Book People' & I just happened to look & think 'mmhh that might be interesting, learning to crochet'. It was £4 so I bought it thinking 'well for only £4 if I don't use it, it'll not matter too much.

Now I think I'm hooked...!!

First Project

I have started my FIRST project....well I've started two in fact. Having practiced lots of rows of double, half treble, treble and double treble crochet I want to actually make something, so have found what looks like a very easy (she says..!) pattern for a 'Crochet Hook Case' being all in double crochet with a little bit of chain and slip stitch edging (pattern by Kim Kotary from favecrafts).

I have also started a scarf for the winter, thinking I may need plenty of time to complete it. The pattern uses double and treble crochet and the use of chain spaces to create 'holes'. Here it is started...

Looking a little narrow, but growing quicker than I thought.
A multi coloured fleck yarn was not the best to start with as it has taken a bit of getting used to 'seeing' the stitches, getting there now though.
I think I might have to make some wrist warmers to match...!

Crochet Workshop

I attended my first crochet workshop (run by 'Mellie Moo Crochet') at the weekend and made this flower broach...

I plan on making several more, so have been shopping to buy buttons, felt and pins etc. I am trying to support local business by going to the shops rather than buy online, and in some instances have found it cheaper, it is certainly more exciting/satisfying.

Practice Samples

Here are some of my practice samples so far...

Hello

..So here I am, writing my first blog...
I have recently (1 week) learnt to crochet and am quite enthused. My teacher 'Mellie Moo' writes a blog and I am now going to give it a whirl, to keep a log of all my work and projects....if I get any off the ground that is...!!
...So here we go...
